Spotlight: Patron Reception Recap - Thank You Center Donors!

Patron Dinner 2010
ACPA Donors on the Discovery Stage for the 2010 Patron Reception.

The Center’s Patron Reception is our annual event to recognize all of you (our donor family, patron level and above) who make such a difference by supporting this facility. This year’s event was a huge success! The stage was glowing with a variety of colors, springtime floral arrangements, and an array of food and beverages were also provided for our guests to enjoy. Columns and structures were specially built to provide a creative display of the food and mini beverage pairings. Students from the UAA Opera Ensemble performed songs from Kismet: Rhymes Have I, And this is my Beloved, Rahadlakum, Musical theater numbers: Lily's eyes, One Last Kiss and a group number at the end: Run, Freedom Run.

A big thank you to the wonderfully talented Cherie Jordan of Saucy Sisters who catered the event (along with her staff), the UAA Opera Ensemble for their performance pieces directed by Dr. Mari Hahn, and to all of you who support this building in so many ways!

On behalf of The Center Staff and Board of Directors, we would like to take the time to thank all of our wonderful donors for everything that you do!

Michael Kaiser: Arts in Crisis Tour

Michael KaiserPresident of the Kennedy Center and author of The Art of the Turnaround: Creating and Maintaining Healthy Arts Organizations, Michael Kaiser recently spoke to our community about maintaining artistic creativity and integrity during these challenging economic times. The event in Anchorage was Kaiser’s only stop in Alaska as part of his national Arts in Crisis: A Kennedy Center Initiative tour of all 50 states.

Dubbed the turn-around king for helping troubled arts organizations including the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Kansas City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre and London’s Royal Opera House, Kaiser has earned international renown for his expertise in arts management. During his Anchorage visit, Kaiser addressed his strategies for long term planning, emphasizing the need for good marketing and unique, stimulating programming. He encourages collaboration among organizations and offers advice on board involvement and fundraising.

Kaiser’s conversation with the community (free and open to the public) was moderated by Bradley Reid & Associates President & Center Board Member, John Tracy in the Discovery Theatre on Thursday, May 20, 2010. The presentation lasted 90-minutes and after the conversation was concluded, Kaiser opened the floor for questions and comments relating to his speech. If you’d like more information about Kaiser’s Arts in Crisis tour, visit his website at www.artsincrisis.org and for photos of his Anchorage presentation, log-on to The Center’s Facebook page.
